Dr. Christoph Gebeshuber is a molecular biologist in Vienna. He graduated at the University of Vienna with distinction and obtained his PhD in Genetics in 2006 at the Institute for Molecular Pathology (IMP) Vienna about signal transduction in breast cancer. He continued his career as a post-doc in the Institute for Molecular Biotechnology of the Austrian Academy of Sciences (IMBA) Vienna focusing on miRNAs. After a serendipitous finding when analyzing a transgenic mouse he switched to the field of Focal Segmental Glomerulosclerosis (FSGS) and joined the Medical University of Vienna in 2011 as an independent PI. Curiosity and the motivation to change the research field several times has been a central motivation throughout his career and provided him with the ability to also see the bigger picture while studying molecular details.
Christoph Gebeshuber has authored several publications in international top journals. In the last years he has focused on characterizing both master regulators and general gene expression changes in the exciting and heterogeneous field of glomerulosclerosis. One of his favourite ways to reset his mind after completing a project is travelling and hiking through the world’s fascinating high altitude mountain ranges.
